IIRC, the height of Soviet air defence tech back then was the MiG-17 - a poorly-make F=86 Sabre knockoff. They could either carry fuel or munitions, and probably couldn't catch up to a BUFF without being vectored to it.

you are correct! Donna now works for Team Alexander, and that's probably the genesis of some pages down the road (after this chapter) as she is forced to work through some "corporate branding" issues. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Alexander doesn't like his sales reps browbeating folks into buying his products.
