I really like the original story for Wolverine: he only had one mutant power, healing. So the government said "hey, he can heal from anything so let's keep cutting him open and inserting upgrades." So they cut him open and reinforced his bones, cut him open and gave him claws.
I think he also has an excellent sense of smell but I'm not sure it rises to the level of a superpower or not. And he's got lots and lots of training. But he only has one core mutant power.
Then later someone decided that he always had the claws, that all the government did was put adamantium on the natural bone claws he had. And I was like... "Huh?" What's next, he naturally was born with a bone Glock in his body somewhere and they'll reinforce that with metal and he'll be able to shoot bullets?
You don't choose the cyborg life, the cyborg life chooses you!
(At least if you fall into the clutches of some ethically challenged Autumn Bayan, like Drake or - in this case - Maggie...)
