if only

Eric's buddy is Pierre-Renard, a fellow international trafficker of liberty. Apparently they got to the party early.

An international crew fighting for liberty?

...I wonder what name they might have. Maybe something combining both their shared goal and the fact that their members are from all over the globe?

How about...

..."Liberty International"?

On a more serious note, it's USSR v. 2.0 right now. The Ukrainians will be a tough nut to crack, but they WILL be broken.

“Liberty International”? No, hard pass. Liberty International is a lie.

I think that the Russians will be successful in taking whatever they want from Ukraine. I also think they’ve sown the seeds of their own destruction. If a bunch of disgruntled Baathist lieutenants and their dirt farmer neighbors could fuck up the US in Iraq, I shudder to think what will happen when Russia occupies Ukraine—they’re going to be taking insane casualties from IEDs and then executing random civilians in the streets in retaliation. Chechnya will look like a schoolyard scuffle.

IF I were in High Command, I would be keeping a VERY watchful eye on the OTHER three-quarters of Russia's military. For all we know, this is "simply" a distraction from the REAL event...

not going to argue that vigilance is warranted, however I think there's some personal pathologies at play, that Putin was never going to be able to de-escalate in Ukraine

Whoa, "fellow international trafficker of liberty" is a euphemism for the ages...

My first thought was "mercenary".

You think they do this stuff for $? That would be almost rational!

When someone is attempting to steal a friggin' country, that's certainly stirring Pierre-Renard's ire!

And poor Eric even has an angry (half-)Russian waiting for him at home...

They share the “tragic heartbreak” backstory, true, but I predict that Duval’s appearances in my comics will probably play him up as a surly, badass shootist who can easily keep pace with McDonald’s anarchistic pyromania.

I probably need to start building a list of places and dates that one or the other of them have been, because “Kyiv, 2022” will be prominently listed.

Another thing that occurred to me:
Pierre-Renard hates his family, but he once stated that the only part about them that he likes is that his ancestor Antoine helped Jewish families escaping the Nazis.
That's the legacy he prefers to uphold!
