Top out + top less + top down = need for *lots* of UV-B protection.

Convertibles? Sure, when its hot (like right now) they're fun!
But when living in a climate (like I do) where you can only actually use them as convertibles on just a few days per year, paying a lot of money for one doesn't really seem worth it for me...

man does BMW even make convertibles for domestic consumption?!

that just seems like a baaaaad idea

You and I live in similar climates (research Ottawa, Canada and you will see) and there are LOTS of convertibles to be found. Jeeps are common, lots of Beemers and Mercs, lots of Corvettes, etc. I, personally, wouldn't "invest" in one (unless I win a lottery or something), because I feel that this thing called "air conditioning" does a better job.

Now, when I visit my buddy in Hawai'i, I will rent a convertible Jeep, because why not?

Yes sure, you often see convertibles over here too!
I'm just saying that concerning my personal cost-benefit calculations, I come to a similar conclusion as you, Sig.

That being said, in the current heat (over 30°C today), I too wish I had easy inexpensive access to one!

The M-151 swing-axle deathtrap[0] I drove for a year while I was in Italy was more a roadster than a convertible (in that erecting and striking the top was non-trivial).

[0] it had the absolute worst implementation of a swing-axle rear suspension. Hitting a bump while cornering hard led to the outside rear wheel tucking under and an unavoidable spin. Please don't ask me how I know.

@jawbone

if I didn't completely suck at time management & overall comic-making skills I would soooo do some "dumb things to do with cars" comics... and that is an example of a prime candidate

I don't know much about military utility vehicles - how much effort is it to remove the top and doors of a Jeep like that?
Also - even if she meant the other way, would two young ladies built such as they are even really get into 'trouble' for going topless unless someone was reeeeeallly "paying attention"?
And if said member of the FBI (Freelance Breast Inspectors) did indeed suss "things" out, would they snitch?!
lirvilas 25th Jun 2022, 7:45 PM edit delete reply

jeeps are military utility vehicles like bacon comes from wild boars

the top comes apart in pieces, and I'm fairly sure an excess of strength is not required

never owned one but they do look fun as hell. vicarious living through comics!

My buddy has a Jeep like that. It has both a hard-top AND a rag-top. The hard top is very easy to remove, and the doors don't weigh very much either.
